Rendering Transitions in a Geometric Level of Detail Framework

چکیده
In computer graphics, the geometric complexity of models increases with time. As scanner and other hardware technologies improve, individual models may contain billions of polygons. Interactively rendering a single polygonal model of this size is not possible with current hardware. Thus for complex scenes that contain many of these models, rendering slows dramatically. One rendering technique, called displacement mapping, introduces even more polygons into a scene. This dissertation develops a novel technique to enhance rendering speeds of displaced models. By utilizing view-dependent algorithms and appearance preserving techniques, interactively rendering complex scenes with many displaced polygons is possible. Focusing on the user’s view of a scene facilitates the removal of large amounts of irrelevant data. This data removal allows efficient rendering of displaced surfaces.

Hierarchical surface fragments
A new compact level-of-detail representation, called hierarchical surface fragments, for geometric objects with highly complex shape is presented. The representation comprises a set of irregular unstructured sampled surface fragments, whose boundary is a circle viewed along its normal. An efficient algorithm to construct the representation is described. In depiction of the framework for visuali...
متن کاملReal-Time Defocus Rendering With Level of Detail and Sub-Sample Blur
This paper presents a GPU-based rendering algorithm for real-time defocus blur effects, which significantly improves the accumulation buffering. The algorithm combines three distinctive techniques: (1) adaptive discrete geometric level of detail (LOD), made popping-free by blending visibility samples across the two adjacent geometric levels; (2) adaptive visibility/shading sampling via sample r...
متن کاملALOHA : Adaptive Level Of Detail for Human Animation Towards a new framework
The task of animating and rendering virtual humans in real-time is challenging. One must first establish a sense of realism through appearance, and then maintain this realism through correct and plausible motion, while continually satisfying the real-time constraint imposed. One technique that aids in achieving such a task is to take advantage of the viewer’s perception to compute less accurate...
متن کاملCrowd Simulation: Implementation on Geometry, Animation and Behavior
Crowd simulations are becoming more popular in entertainment industry and interactive applications. However, the task of rendering and animating crowds of virtual humans in real-time is challenging. In this paper, we describe recent progress on crowd simulation research on three different levels, namely, geometry, animation and behavior. These three levels deal with implementation issues from l...
متن کاملLevel-of-Detail Shaders
Current graphics hardware can render objects using simple procedural shaders in real-time. However, detailed, highquality shaders will continue to stress the resources of hardware for some time to come. Shaders written for film production and software renderers may stretch to thousands of lines. The difficulty of rendering efficiently is compounded when there is not just one, but a scene full o...
